Skin Care Regimen for Psoriasis

Here Is An Awesome Skin Care Regimen for Psoriasis

Psoriasis can be a stressful condition to deal with; depending on the type of psoriasis from which you suffer, symptoms include skinSkin Care Regimine that is itchy, scaly, flaky and red. Although there are a slew of treatment products on the market that claim to dramatically alleviate the symptoms of psoriasis, putting together a skin care regimen does not have to be complicated. In fact, you’ll be surprised at how “mainstream” a recommended skin care routine for psoriasis can be. It’s all a matter of choosing the right products. Use the following steps to create the right skin care routine for your skin.

1.  Cleanse
In terms of choosing a cleanser, look for words such as ‘calming,’ ‘soothing’ or ‘non-irritating’ on the label. You cannot go wrong with products that are specifically formulated for sensitive skin. Even though psoriasis is a skin condition that is an entirely separate entity and is not technically “sensitive skin” per se, the symptoms associated with it automatically make psoriasis suitable for products made for sensitive skin.

2.    Exfoliate
Regardless of one’s skin condition, everyone needs to exfoliate. With psoriasis, this can pose a challenge, so your best option is to choose a gentle exfoliant that is non-granular and non-abrasive. Try a fruit enzyme-based or lactic acid-based exfoliant as these are gentle enough to use and will help dissolve dead skin cells.

3.    Tone
Far too many people skip this step, thinking it is unnecessary, but using the right toner in a skin care regimen is beneficial to the skin. It restores one’s pH balance and ensures the skin is thoroughly clean. Stick with alcohol-free toners that contain soothing properties such as Chamomile, Aloe Vera Gel or Keratoplast.

4.    Moisturize
Psoriasis sufferers struggle with dryness and particularly need to moisturize (although everyone needs to). Opt for night creams, moisturizers and sunscreens that are formulated for very sensitive skin. For nighttime, apply a moisturizer or night cream. For daytime, use a sunscreen with at least a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of 15.

5.    Mask
This step can be done once a week, but be careful when choosing a face mask. There are a plethora of masks on the market, so be sure to opt for one that is high quality and that is made with anti-inflammatory agents like Chamomile, Marine Extracts, Green Tea and Balsam Peru.

A simple, daily skin care routine for psoriasis such as the one suggested above is crucial in controlling flare-ups and avoiding skin aggravation. Moreover, if you are using topical steroids, it is unwise to depend on them for an extended period of time since long-term use can cause thinning of the skin and other side effects.

*Before you begin using any over-the-counter skin care product, consult with a dermatologist first. One product that works for a psoriasis sufferer may not work for another, since there are five different types of psoriasis. In addition to consulting with a dermatologist, you can do a patch test to determine if a particular product does or does not exacerbate your condition.
